Kasper Brand Identity
Building a consistent visual identity for a smart technology brand

Overview
Building a more refined brand identity
Kasper's existing brand identity lacked consistency, flexibility, and a clear visual direction. I led a rebranding initiative focused on creating a more refined and practical identity across digital and print applications.
Starting as a university project, the work involved brand research, creative direction, visual identity development, and brand guidelines. The new identity was officially adopted by Kasper, with selected designs implemented and produced.

Challenge
An identity that lacked consistency and flexibility
Kasper's existing brand identity had several limitations. The logo felt outdated and visually unbalanced, with limited variations for different applications. The brand also relied on a single blue without a defined color system, creating inconsistencies across digital and print materials.
Some of the existing colors were difficult to reproduce accurately in print, making it harder to maintain a consistent identity. The challenge was to establish a more refined, flexible, and practical visual system that reflected Kasper's positioning as a premium smart home brand.

Discovery
Finding the balance between luxury and technology
I started by studying established smart home and premium technology brands, exploring how they approached logos, colors, typography, and visual communication. The research highlighted a common direction: minimal identities, restrained color palettes, and clear typography that balanced sophistication with simplicity.
From there, I explored visual references around luxury interiors, architectural lighting, premium materials, and technology. These helped establish a direction for Kasper that felt refined, modern, and approachable while maintaining a consistent identity across different applications.

Workflow
Building a cohesive brand identity
With the visual direction established, I focused on building an identity system that could work consistently across digital and physical applications. This involved directing the logo development, defining the visual standards, and translating the new identity into practical brand materials.
1. Logo Design & Creative Direction
I developed the creative brief and worked with a collaborating designer on the new Kasper logo. Throughout the process, I reviewed multiple concepts and provided feedback on proportions, balance, and visual direction, while allowing the designer creative freedom in developing the final mark.

2. Brand Identity System
Introduction
With the logo finalized, I independently developed the visual identity system to ensure consistency across different applications. This included defining clearspace rules, logo variations, color specifications, and typography standards that made the identity practical and adaptable.
Logo Symbol - Clearspace

I established minimum clearspace around the standalone symbol using the cap height of the "K" as a reference. This ensures the symbol remains recognizable without visual interference, with a recommended minimum digital size of 24px.
Logo Wordmark - Clearspace

For the wordmark, I defined consistent spacing requirements to maintain readability and visual balance. The guidelines preserve its proportions, letter spacing, and orientation across different applications.
Primary Logo - Clearspace

The primary logo combines the symbol and wordmark into a unified identity. I established clearspace, minimum sizing, and contrast requirements to ensure the complete logo remains consistent and legible across digital and print materials.
Logo Variants & Misuse

I developed approved logo variations to accommodate different backgrounds and applications. I also documented incorrect usage, including distortion, unauthorized color changes, rotation, and visual effects, to maintain the integrity of the identity.
Brand Color Palette

I replaced the previous single-color approach with a defined palette built around Kasper Blue, supported by charcoal, light gray, white, and an optional champagne gold accent. Each color was assigned HEX and CMYK specifications to improve consistency across digital and print applications.
Typography Rules

I selected Satoshi as the primary brand typeface for its clean, contemporary appearance and versatility. Its range of weights provides a consistent typographic foundation for clear and structured communication across brand materials.
3. Brand Applications
I extended the new identity across business cards, stationery, app icons, and physical device branding. Each application was designed to maintain consistency while adapting to its specific format and requirements.
The rebrand was officially adopted by Kasper, with selected materials produced and incorporated into subsequent brand applications.

A minimal design using strong contrast, balanced spacing, and refined typography to create a professional and recognizable brand touchpoint.
Reflection
Designing beyond visual appeal
This project reinforced that a strong brand identity needs to work beyond just looking good. Every decision, from color selection to logo variations, had to consider consistency, flexibility, and real-world production.
Leading the creative direction while collaborating on the logo development also strengthened my approach to giving constructive feedback and maintaining a clear design vision. Seeing the identity officially adopted by Kasper, with selected applications brought into production, made the project especially rewarding.
